Today's Behind the Scenes Philanthropy Friday highlights the Columbus Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation. To read more about this non-profit organization visit the Philanthropy Friday Feature article on Columbus Underground.
The Columbus Chapter National Hemophilia Foundation recently held an event for children to learn how to play either baseball or golf, both sports being ones that a child with hemophilia can play without posing too much of a risk for developing a major bleed. They brought in professionals in each sport who themselves have hemophilia to provide instruction.
Executive Director Rob Alexander had a blast that day helping out with the baseball side of things, and his favorite memory was when a young boy exclaimed “this is the best day of my whole life!” Rob felt like it was one of the best of his life too.
Children who have hemophilia are oftentimes told what they cannot do. In this case, they were being shown what they CAN do and the excitement was palpable.
